They Flew. They Fought. They Died. They Won. THE COLD BLUE is a meditation on youth, war and trauma, and stands as a tribute to one of the world's great filmmakers and the men of the 8th Air Force who flew mission after suicidal mission in the Second World War. Nine of the very few surviving veterans were interviewed in the summer of 2017, and their voices take us through the summer of 1943. Director William Wyler went to Europe in 1943 to document the Air War in progress. All the raw color footage Wyler shot for THE MEMPHIS BELLE was recently discovered and a new film has been constructed out of the material.
Did You Know?
- It was not called the Air Force in WW II. It was the Army Air Corp. The USAF was created in 1947 as its own Branch.
- V.G. Alexander: Very good people. As you know, at the beginning of the war they weren't too enamored by the Yanks comin' over. They said we were "overpaid, oversexed and over here,"
- V.G. Alexander: I remember that.

Great film, great footage, great story of true heroes
a great history about the Greatest Generation. Left me wondering how they did it all, even after watching how they did it all. Brave men, inspiring men. And my teenage grandsons loved it!
